On Saturday 5th July 2025, something special happened down at Iford Lane.
For the first time ever, East Dorset Dockers had the honour of hosting the Looseheadz Barbarians - and what a day it turned out to be. The build-up had been buzzing for weeks, and the game definitely didn’t disappoint.
From the first whistle, both sides came out firing. It was clear neither team had travelled just for the sunshine and social (though there was plenty of that too). The match was a proper contest, full of grit, big hits, and some brilliant passages of play. In the end, it was the Dockers who edged it, coming away with a hard-fought 29 - 22 win in front of a buzzing home crowd.
But as much as the game was a highlight, the real win came afterwards.
True to form, the Dockers hosted an absolutely top-notch post-match social - with great vibes, proper rugby spirit, and plenty of entertainment to keep everyone smiling. More importantly, through all the fun and fundraising, we were able to raise £381.12 in support of the Looseheadz charity.
For those who don’t know, Looseheadz are doing some seriously important work in the rugby world. Their mission is to tackle the stigma around mental health, with the goal of having a mental health lead in every rugby club worldwide. They’re changing the conversation around mental wellbeing in sport - something we’re hugely proud to support.
All in all, it was a day to remember: a brilliant game, a buzzing atmosphere, and a real sense of purpose behind it all. Massive thanks to Looseheadz for making the trip, and to everyone who came down and got involved.
Here’s to more days like this - rugby at its best, both on and off the pitch.
